Artists Open Studios For Studio Ramble Spring Art Tour

RED WING, MN (March 2014) — Artists in the Red Wing area invite the public to visit their studios during the Studio Ramble Spring Studio Tour and Art Sale, Saturday April 26, 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday April 27, 10 am – 5 pm. Visitors can explore the works of over 15+ artists among 10 sites.This annual event offers a unique opportunity to tour the studios, meet the artists and see and purchase art work in a variety of media including painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, computer imagingandGiclee prints. One of the sites will also have live music during the weekend. The studio setting allows for a behind-the-scenes look at the artists and their work. Many visitors enjoy one-on-one conversations with the artists and learn about the inspiration behind the pieces.Visitors from the surrounding area, including Rochester,Northfield, Minneapolis, St. Paul and River Falls, come to the Studio Ramble to find distinctive artwork for their homes and offices. New artists join the Studio Ramble’s veteran artists to create a new experience each year. Mette is a native Norwegian who now lives in Red Wing. She is a textile fiber artist, natural dyer and she leaves impressions on cloth, textiles, canvas, papers and metal. Her love of Nature and the surroundings of her native Wisconsin are the primary inspirations for her work. Drawing at an early age has developed into a life of art whether it involves capturing her grandchildren on canvas or painting the natural world.

Tom Gavitt

His self-taught watercolor painting technique began during a European trip in 1982.  Tom works in two distinctly different styles relying on sensitive interpretation of realistically rendered subjects in his Eastern painting series and boldly colored, high-key, light filled and loosely rendered interpretations of Native American villages and landscapes in his Southwestern series of paintings.  In juxtaposition, the two styles are startlingly different and Tom frequently does shows in which both styles are fully represented. Tom has produced nearly 5,000 watercolor paintings which are represented in private collections all over the world. Tom calls Red Wing home now, but he has also lived in New York, New Mexico, Maine and Arizona over his lifetime.

David Husom

His color photographs document small town Minnesota and Wisconsin, particularly the Mississippi River valley. Peg Simonson

Peggy’s love of color is apparent as you enter her studio tucked behind the historic Anderson Center. She also hand dyes and paints sumptuous silk scarves using a wide variety of techniques.

Akitomo Tsuchiya moved to Red Wing from Nagano, Japan four years ago.  He is a painter working in oil, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, pencil and red chalk.  Akitomo paints still life, landscapes, portraits and imaginative works of art.  His style is basically representational.  Most of his work is commissioned paintings.
